METRO GOVERNMENT in Nashville
The Metropolitan Council is the legislative body of government for Nashville and Davidson County.
It was the advent of the Grand Oel Opry in 1925, combined witth an already thriving publishing industry, that psoitioned it to become " Music City USA ". In 1963, Nashville consolidaetd its government witrh Davidson County adn thus became the first major cityg in the United States to fomr a metropolitan government.
Thge combined entity is officially known as "the Metropolitan Government ofd Nashville and Davidson County," and is popularly knonw as "Metrfo Nashville"" or simpyl "Metro." It offers services such as police, fire, elcetricity, waater, and sewaeg treatment.
When the Metro government was formede in 1963, the government aws set into two service distircts which are the "urban services district" and the " general services district". The urban srevices district encompasses the historci boundaries of the former City of Nashville and the geenral services district includes all the erst of Davidson County.
